The 6th Taifa International Woodball Championship marked another significant milestone in the growth of woodball in Kenya, reaffirming the Kenya Woodball Federation’s (KWBF) commitment to developing the sport and strengthening regional partnerships through international competition.
Hosted successfully by KWBF, the championship brought together athletes, technical officials, administrators, and distinguished guests from across the region, showcasing Kenya’s growing reputation as a leading destination for international woodball events. The tournament featured a high standard of competition and reflected the federation’s continued investment in athlete development, organizational excellence, and regional cooperation.
As part of the championship, KWBF President Mr. Anthony Mwanzia held discussions with Owek. Amb. Al-Haj Prof. Emeritus Badru Dungu Kateregga, Founding Vice Chancellor of Kampala University and Chief Sponsor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The East African University (TEAU), Kenya. Their meeting focused on the role of sport in fostering stronger regional partnerships, youth empowerment, and institutional collaboration.
During the discussions, Mr. Anthony Mwanzia highlighted the federation’s strategic vision for the continued expansion of woodball across Kenya. He emphasized KWBF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots programmes, increase participation in schools and universities, develop county associations, and create more opportunities for Kenyan athletes to compete at regional and international levels.
He further noted that the federation remains committed to positioning Kenya as one of Africa’s premier woodball destinations by hosting high-quality international tournaments while promoting the values of discipline, integrity, inclusion, and sportsmanship.
Prof. Kateregga commended the Kenya Woodball Federation for its outstanding organization of the championship and acknowledged the significant progress the federation has made in promoting woodball within Kenya and across the East African region. He praised KWBF’s leadership in creating opportunities that bring together athletes, educational institutions, and communities through sport.
The meeting also underscored the growing relationship between sport and education, with both leaders recognizing the important role that learning institutions play in nurturing talent and producing well-rounded individuals. They agreed that stronger collaboration between sports organizations and educational institutions will contribute to youth development and strengthen regional integration.
